The Price of Freedom
Freedom and Liberty are paid for in many ways. Traditionally this has been viewed as sacrifice on the battlefield. Although that is the ultimate sacrifice, we all sacrifice everyday for freedom. We have to endure sights, sounds, and acts that are offensive or annoying to us. We listen to the neighbors barking dog, TV shows that portray life styles we don't approve  of, or complain about the junk cars next door.
Ultimately these are minor inconveniences, that are easily overcome if you don't dwell on them. It seems that there are an endless parade of do-gooders fighting an endless battle to protect us from these mundane annoyances.  They don't want you to drive an SUV or own a firearm. They pass laws to save us from our selves, all the time whittling our freedoms away. One bylaw,  amendment, congressional act, or zoning law at a time. These do-gooders are more of a threat to freedom than all the terrorists in the world.
Liberty can be the cause of tragedy. When a criminal abuses  access to firearms, or technology we all pay a price.  As a people we have to understand that we sometimes have to endure the acts of these criminals as part of our price for living free.
We don't have to endure these acts. We could  put a  tracking chip on every American and regulate crime to zero. The government could regulate everything we do and  protect us from ourselves. Some may embrace such a solution.  I would rather pay the price for my freedom, and live in a free America that does not live in fear of what my neighbor may do, or may possess. I will stand proud, and not be afraid.
So the next time you hear someone say "We should pass a law against that," remember one persons annoying hobby, or criminal act may be part of your price of freedom.
